The newly created Shinigami Academy section allows Spirits living in Rukongai to recieve Shinigami training. Be warned however that the full course requires six years to complete, meaning that -- bluntly put -- you only graduate when we tell you to .

As Academy Students are still Spirits, there is no limit to the amount of characters that can be one, given that they only become a Shinigami after graduation.

Also take note that the process of Soul Burial is a thorough one. ALL abilities formerly posessed by the character in question (yes, Changelings too) are destroyed in the purification process, including those gained through a Prestige Race. Hollows that become purified also end up in Rukongai as regular Spirits, therefore the Academy is open to them as well.

The only ones that are able to bypass the Academy altogether are those of the Advent Shinigami prestige race. It should be noted however that their growth is stunted after their death, as they cannot be eligible for becoming another prestige race during the course of their future careers.

A Shinigami Academy Student uses the Human/Spirit application sheet, and would use her Self Defence Method section. The things that can be filled out here are a total of two to four Demon Arts and/or a real life fighting style. Not all of that, of course, since it'd depend on what Division you'd be trying to get into post-graduation. Students aiming to get into the 7th Division for example would favor Demon Arts over brawn, whereas 11th Division Students would be more likely to go for the opposite.

The Demon Arts that can be selected are one of #20 and below, and the others (if any) all #10 and below. You are of course free to decide which ones you want to take, provided you don't go overboard and cram all of them into your sheet.
